Linfen is a third tier city in south central Shanxi Province, China, somewhere in between Beijing and Xi'an. Located in the cradle of ancient Chinese civilization and infamous for some of the worst air pollution in the world, the region has remained greatly isolated from the development and modernization of the east coast. In 2010-2011 I spent 9 months living alongside and documenting the people and lifestyles of Linfen residents.
